Hi, I'm Carlie.
I'm a Canadian living in Mexico, working online in the AI space. My path here wasn't a straight line — and I think that's the point.
I came up through tourism management and then conservation science and planning: two fields obsessed, in their own ways, with people and place. Tourism taught me how experiences are built and shared. Conservation taught me to think in decades, to respect complexity, and to plan carefully for things that can't be undone.
These days I carry that same lens into AI — a field moving fast enough to need people who care about the human and natural systems it touches. I write about what I'm learning, build in the open, and connect with others walking parallel paths: digital nomads, career changers, neurodivergent creatives, fellow AI folks, and conservationists.

Where it started: understanding how people move through places, and how good design makes a trip mean something.
Conservation science & planning
Then deeper — into the science of protecting ecosystems and planning for the long term, not just the season.
Working online in AI
Now: building online in the AI space, bringing that same care for people and place to a fast-moving field.
What I care about
- Human before hype — technology should serve people, not the other way around.
- Curiosity as a discipline, whether the subject is a coral reef or a language model.
